The blade of the file requires high hardness and wear resistance, and the hardening depth below the tooth tip is >1mm. The tooth should have no decarburization layer, the hardness of the handle is < 35HRC, and the distortion after heat treatment requires 100mm length <0.1mm. In order to prevent the oxidative decarbonization of the file during quenching and heating, it used to be heated in a salt bath containing yellow blood salt. The salt bath composition (mass fraction) was: 35% yellow blood Salt + 15% sodium carbonate + 50% sodium chloride. This technology has made a great contribution to the development of the file, but because of the salt bath pollution to the environment, it is gradually eliminated. High frequency induction heating and fluidized bed protection atmosphere heating technology has been applied. The quenching process of the file is heated at 760~800 C and water quenched. Because of the lower hardness requirement of the handle of the file, only the teeth are quenched in water when quenching, and then the handle is quenched when the color of the handle becomes dark red. When the file is cooled to about 200 degrees in water, it is removed by hand and straightened at the edge of the sink. As long as the operator accurately grasps the timing of the effluent, straightening is not a problem.
The file is usually tempered at 1h of 160~180 degree nitrate, and the hardness of the gear is more than 64HRC after tempering.
