The flooring industry knows that winter is the off season of epoxy flooring industry. Why? Because the temperature is too low in winter, it is easy to cause many problems of epoxy flooring. The biggest problem is that the paint is not easy to dry. In order to catch up with the construction period, workers rush up to construct, resulting in unsatisfactory construction effect of epoxy flooring. If the epoxy floor is thicker, the effect will be worse, and it will be harder to dry in winter. According to this construction, the epoxy floor will crack. Is there any way to avoid this phenomenon? Epoxy flooring company knows that the best construction environment of epoxy flooring coating is humidity less than 75%, temperature 10-35 C, generally speaking, more than 5 C can also be constructed, below 5 C, the actual role of epoxy flooring coating on the ground is more difficult to ensure. Why is it difficult to apply epoxy floor coating in low temperature environment? The reasons are as follows:
1. Slow down the reaction of coatings
Two-component floor paint (our company's two-component) construction, the need for on-site mixing of components A and B at a ratio of 5:1 or 1:1, mixing evenly, so that the two components fully respond, so as to adjust to ensure the role of the floor. But assuming that the temperature is below 5 C, the reaction will decrease or slow down, which will seriously affect the curing function of floor coatings. The decrease of curing function will result in a slow drying of the coating surface, which may be contaminated by dust, debris, or insects (flies, mosquitoes).
2. Viscosity doubles
Solvent-free self-leveling coatings do not need scratching, depending on leveling to ensure the evenness of the floor. However, at low temperature, the viscosity of floor coating will be doubled and the leveling function will decrease. However, the flatness of the coatings will lead to the defect of trowel marks when scraping due to the worsening of the activity and leveling function.
3. Decreasing the Quality of Coatings
Due to the slow reaction of curing, the strength, hardness and wear resistance of the film will decrease, and the problem of floor detachment will appear more simply, which will seriously affect the service life of epoxy floor.
Under the low temperature environment in winter, the curing speed of the coating becomes slower, the condition becomes viscous, the construction difficulty increases, and the quality of the coating itself decreases. But although the construction of epoxy floor paint in winter is very difficult and the quality is difficult to ensure, if the project really needs to be constructed in winter or low temperature environment, you can refer to the following methods:
1. Low Temperature Interval
During the construction of epoxy floor paint, the construction should be separated from the low temperature period as far as possible, start after 10 a.m. and discontinue at 3 p.m. to reduce the impact of low temperature.
2. Adding room temperature
Add indoor temperature, raise the temperature to more than 5 degrees, so it can also be constructed in winter. Many factories in the north have heating, which can be turned on before and during construction.
3. Adding Solvents
Solvents with faster transpiration rate less than 5% can be added, such as acetone, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, etc. This can deal with the problem of high viscosity and lack of leveling of floor paint at low temperature.
